1 2 BY FORD and CHIODO
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution requesting that the Legislative
1 4 Council create an interim study committee to review
1 5 aviation transportation in Iowa.
1 6 WHEREAS, aviation service to Iowa's communities is
1 7 a vital component in the economic development of the
1 8 communities but there is not a single state
1 9 department, organization, or individual with
1 10 responsibility for providing leadership concerning
1 11 aviation service; and
1 12 WHEREAS, there are complex factors affecting the
1 13 availability and cost of aviation service in Iowa that
1 14 require expertise to address, including competition
1 15 from other states and market entry barriers caused by
1 16 federal regulation; and
1 17 WHEREAS, ensuring reasonably priced aviation
1 18 service for transport of people and goods between the
1 19 cities of Iowa and other states is of great importance
1 20 in developing and maintaining trade between Iowa and
1 21 other states and nations; NOW THEREFORE,
1 22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
1 23 SENATE CONCURRING, That the Iowa Legislative Council
1 24 is requested to create an aviation interim study
1 25 committee for the 1999 interim. If created, the
1 26 committee should be directed to review all issues
1 27 concerning aviation transportation in this state,
1 28 including proposals for establishing an Iowa office of
1 29 aviation and a Governor's council for air service
1 30 development to provide leadership concerning aviation
2 1 service in this state.
