1 4 #1. Page 1, by striking lines 3 through 33 and
1 5 inserting the following:

1 7 inserting the following:
1 8 "Section 1. FUNDING OF COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT
1 9 SERVICES.
1 10 1. For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2001, and
1 11 for subsequent fiscal years, a county shall budget and
1 12 fund enforcement services of the office of county
1 13 sheriff from the rural services fund only if the
1 14 county budgeted and funded the law enforcement
1 15 services of the office of county sheriff in whole or
1 16 in part from the rural services fund for the preceding
1 17 fiscal year.
1 18 2. Subsection 1 shall not apply to counties after
1 19 the last day of the regular session of the general
1 20 assembly which convenes following the final
1 21 disposition of litigation pending before the district
1 22 court of Lyon or Story county addressing the issue of
1 23 funding of the law enforcement services of the office
1 24 of county sheriff, whichever decision is issued last,
1 25 and after the recommendations of the study committee
1 26 have been submitted."
