1 7 "Sec. . NEW SECTION. 214A.2A MOTOR VEHICLE
1 8 FUEL REQUIREMENTS.
1 9 1. Prior to January 1, 2000, a retail dealer shall
1 10 not offer for sale in this state a motor vehicle fuel
1 11 that contains more than one percent of methyl tertiary
1 12 butyl ether."
1 13 2. On and after January 1, 2000, a retail dealer
1 14 shall not offer for sale in this state a motor vehicle
1 15 fuel that contains more than trace amounts of methyl
1 16 tertiary butyl ether as provided by rules adopted by
1 17 the department. The department shall adopt rules
1 18 necessary in order to ensure that methyl tertiary
1 19 butyl ether does not cause a threat to the public
1 20 health or environment by contaminating groundwater or
1 21 surface water in this state.""
