  1  1    Amend the amendment, H-1407, to House File 746, as
  1  2 follows:
  1  3    #1.  Page 1, line 2, by striking the figure "16"
  1  4 and inserting the following:  "15".
  1  5    #2.  Page 1, line 2, by striking the figure "11"
  1  6 and inserting the following:  "12".
  1  7    #3.  By striking page 1, lines 4 through 8, and
  1  8 inserting the following:
  1  9    ""Sec.    .  OXYGENATE ENHANCERS.
  1 10    1.  The legislative council shall establish an
  1 11 interim committee to study issues relating to the
  1 12 sale, use, and health and environmental effects of
  1 13 oxygenate enhancers contained in motor vehicle fuel,
  1 14 including but not limited to ethanol and methyl
  1 15 tertiary butyl ether.  The interim committee shall
  1 16 report the findings and recommendations of its study,
  1 17 including any proposed legislation, to the general
  1 18 assembly as required by the legislative council prior
  1 19 to the 2000 Session of the Seventy-eighth General
  1 20 Assembly.
  1 21    2.  At sites where groundwater or soil monitoring
  1 22 is required, pursuant to section 455B.474, subsection
  1 23 1, paragraph "d", "f", or "h", the department of
  1 24 natural resources shall require that monitoring
  1 25 include testing for the presence of methyl tertiary
  1 26 butyl ether from the locations where other sample
  1 27 analyses are required.  The department shall provide
  1 28 regular updates to the interim committee established
  1 29 in subsection 1 as required by the interim committee.
  1 30 The department shall report the findings and
  1 31 recommendations of the testing to the general assembly
  1 32 prior to the 2000 Session of the Seventy-eighth
  1 33 General Assembly.""
