PRESENTATION OF VISITORS The Chair welcomed at the request of Senator Palmer, fifty 5th grade students from Centennial Elementary School, Altoona, Iowa, accompanied by Chris Hennigan and Jami Aldrich, who were present in the balcony. LEAVES OF ABSENCE Leaves of absence were granted as follows: Senators Szymoniak and Fraise until they arrive, on request of Senator Gronstal. CONSIDERATION OF BILLS (Regular Calendar) Senator Iverson asked and received unanimous consent to take up for consideration Senate Files 2144, 2317, and 2274. Senate File 2144 On motion of Senator Angelo, Senate File 2144, a bill for an act relating to elections to change the boundaries of director districts after dissolution of a school district, was taken up for consideration. Senator Angelo offered amendment S-5218, filed by him on March 11, 1998, striking everything after the enacting clause and to the title page of the bill, and moved its adoption. Amendment S-5218 was adopted by a voice vote. Senator Angelo moved that the bill be read the last time now and placed upon its passage, which motion prevailed by a voice vote, and the bill was read the last time. On the question "Shall the bill pass?" (S.F. 2144), the vote was: Ayes, 46: Angelo Bartz Behn Black Boettger Borlaug Connolly Dearden Deluhery Douglas Drake Dvorsky Fink Flynn Freeman Gaskill
