  The appointee having received a two-thirds vote was declared to
  have been confirmed by the Senate.

  Senator Rife called up the appointment of Mary Jean Montgomery
  as a member of the Iowa Telecommunications and Technology
  Commission, placed on the Individual Confirmation Calendar on
  March 4, 1997, and found on page 483 of the Senate Journal.

  Senator Rife moved that the foregoing appointment be confirmed by
  the Senate.

  On the question "Shall the appointee be confirmed?" the vote was:
