  The Senate met in regular session at 1:09 p.m., President Kramer
  presiding.

  Prayer was offered by the Reverend Michael Marcum, pastor of the First
  Baptist Church, Elk Horn, Iowa.

  The Journal of Thursday, January 30, 1997, was approved.

  LEAVES OF ABSENCE

  Leaves of absence were granted as follows:

  Senators Flynn and Hansen for the day on request of Senator Gronstal;
  Senator
  Angelo for today and tomorrow on the request of Senator McKibben, and
  Senator
  Hedge for the week on request of Senator Iverson.

  INTRODUCTION OF BILL

  Senate File 99, by Maddox, a bill for an act relating to the
  applicability period for professional engineering and land surveyor
  licensure requirements.

  Read first time and passed on file.

  RECESS

  On motion of Senator Iverson, the Senate recessed at 1:13 p.m.,
  until 5:00 p.m.
