1 1 Section 1. Section 542B.14, subsection 1, Code 1997, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. e. The requirements for licensure under
1 4 this subsection in effect for the year in which an applicant
1 5 for licensure as a professional engineer enrolls in a course
1 6 in engineering pursuant to paragraph "a", subparagraph (1),
1 7 passes an examination for certification as an engineer intern
1 8 pursuant to paragraph "b", or commences a period of practical
1 9 work experience pursuant to paragraph "c" shall apply in
1 10 determining whether or not licensure shall be granted by the
1 11 board.
1 12 Sec. 2. Section 542B.14, subsection 2, Code 1997, is
1 13 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
1 14 NEW PARAGRAPH. e. The requirements for licensure under
1 15 this subsection in effect for the year in which an applicant
1 16 for licensure as a land surveyor enrolls in a course pursuant
1 17 to paragraph "a", subparagraph (1), passes an examination in
1 18 fundamental land surveying subjects pursuant to paragraph "b",
1 19 or commences a period of practical work experience pursuant to
1 20 paragraph "a", subparagraph (1), or paragraph "c" shall apply
1 21 in determining whether or not licensure shall be granted by
1 22 the board.
1 23 EXPLANATION
1 24 This bill provides that an individual seeking licensure as
1 25 a professional engineer or a land surveyor pursuant to the
1 26 requirements of Code section 542B.14 shall be governed by the
1 27 licensure requirements in effect in the year in which they
1 28 began coursework, took preliminary examinations, or commenced
1 29 periods of practical work experience as required by the
1 30 section, rather than the requirements in effect in the year in
1 31 which licensure is sought.
