  4 JOURNAL OF THE SENATE 1st Day
  TEMPORARY SECRETARY
  Senator Iverson moved that Mary Pat Gunderson be appointed as
  temporary Secretary of the Senate.
  The motion prevailed by a voice vote and Mrs. Gunderson appeared
  before the rostrum and was duly sworn to the oath of office.

  ADOPTION OF TEMPORARY RULES
  AND TEMPORARY COMPENSATION

  Senator Iverson moved that the rules of the Senate and provisions
  for compensation of employees adopted by the 76th General Assembly
  be adopted as the temporary rules and temporary compensation
  provisions for the 1997 session of the 77th General Assembly.
  The motion prevailed by a voice vote.
  COMMITTEE ON CREDENTIALS
  Senator Iverson moved that a committee of five be appointed as a
  committee on credentials.
  The motion prevailed by a voice vote and the Chair announced the
  appointment of Senators Lind, Chair; Tinsman, Douglas, Hansen and
  Halvorson.

  The Senate stood at ease at 10:23 a.m., until the fall of the gavel.

  The Senate resumed session at 10:26 a.m., Senator Kramer presiding.

  To the Honorable, Secretary of the Senate:
  I, Paul D. Pate, Secretary of the State of the State of Iowa, custodian of
  the files and
  records pertaining to elections in the State, do hereby certify that the

  Canvassing Board has declared that at the General Election held on November
  5,
  1996, each of the following named persons was duly elected to the office of
  State
  Senator for the term of four years beginning on the second day of January,
  1997:
