1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 730.6 ATTENDANCE AT POLITICAL
1 2 PARTY CONVENTIONS.
1 3 1. An employer shall permit an employee, upon reasonable
1 4 notice, to take unpaid time off from work to attend, as an
1 5 elected delegate, a regularly scheduled local, district,
1 6 county, state, or national convention of a political party as
1 7 defined in section 43.2.
1 8 2. An employer shall not take any adverse action against
1 9 an employee who exercises the employee's right to attend a
1 10 political party convention pursuant to this section.
1 11 3. A person who violates this section is, upon conviction,
1 12 guilty of a simple misdemeanor.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill provides that an employer shall permit an
1 15 employee to take unpaid time off from work to attend a
1 16 political party convention as an elected delegate. The bill
1 17 requires that the employee give the employer reasonable notice
1 18 of this request and provides that the employer shall not take
1 19 any adverse action against an employee exercising their rights
1 20 under this bill. A person who violates this new Code section
1 21 is guilty of a simple misdemeanor.
