1 1 Section 1. Section 303.2, subsection 3, Code 1997, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. d. Assist in the establishment of a
1 4 midwest museum of the arts by coordinating with national and
1 5 major metropolitan art museums in the United States as
1 6 provided for in section 303.88A.
1 7 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 303.88A MIDWEST MUSEUM OF THE ARTS.
1 8 1. The arts division administrator shall be responsible
1 9 for establishing a midwest museum of the arts which shall be
1 10 located in the state. The museum shall be established through
1 11 the assistance of and coordination with national and major
1 12 metropolitan art museums in the United States.
1 13 2. The arts division administrator shall submit a report
1 14 not later than ten calendar days following the commencement of
1 15 each legislative session to the secretary of the senate and
1 16 the chief clerk of the house of representatives relating to
1 17 the establishment and operation of a midwest museum of the
1 18 arts. The report shall contain a detailed account of progress
1 19 made in establishing a museum or the operations of the museum
1 20 over the past year.
1 21 EXPLANATION
1 22 This bill requires the arts division administrator of the
1 23 department of cultural affairs to be responsible for
1 24 establishing a midwest museum of the arts through the
1 25 assistance of and coordination with national and major
1 26 metropolitan art museums in the United States. The bill
1 27 requires an annual report to be submitted to the general
1 28 assembly relating to the establishment and operation of a
1 29 midwest museum of the arts.
