  1  4 RELATING TO THE OPERATION OF MOTORBOATS ON ARTIFICIAL
  1  5    LAKES AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

  1  7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 
  1  8 
  1  9    Section 1.  Section 462A.31, subsection 1, paragraph b,
  1 10 Code 1997, is amended to read as follows:
  1 11    b.  A motorboat equipped with any power unit mounted or
  1 12 carried aboard the vessel may be operated at a no-wake speed
  1 13 on all artificial lakes of more than one hundred acres in size
  1 14 under the custody of the department.  However, on Big Creek
  1 15 lake and lake Macbride, a motorboat with a power unit
  1 16 exceeding ten horsepower may be operated only when permitted
  1 17 by rule and the rule shall not authorize such use during the
  1 18 period beginning on the Friday before Memorial Day and ending
  1 19 on Labor Day inclusively.  This paragraph does not limit
  1 20 motorboat horsepower on natural lakes under the custody of the
  1 21 department or limit the department's authority to establish
  1 22 special speed zoning regulations.
  1 23    Sec. 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE.  This Act, being deemed of
  1 24 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment.
