1 1 Section 1. Section 306C.21, Code 1997, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 306C.21 INFORMATION CENTERS.
1 4 The department may establish or enter into agreements with
1 5 private persons, firms, or corporations for the establishment
1 6 of information centers in rest areas on the interstate,
1 7 freeway primary, and primary highways, subject to the approval
1 8 of the appropriate authority of the federal government.
1 9 Private persons, firms, or corporations entering into an
1 10 agreement with the department under this section shall not
1 11 develop, establish, or own any commercial business located on
1 12 land adjacent to the rest area which is subject to the
1 13 agreement.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 Code section 306C.21 allows the state department of
1 16 transportation to enter into agreements with private persons,
1 17 firms, or corporations for the establishment of information
1 18 centers in rest areas on the interstate or primary highways.
1 19 This bill provides that a party entering into an agreement
1 20 under this section shall not develop, establish, or own any
1 21 commercial business adjacent to the rest area which is subject
1 22 to the agreement.
