PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 483A.27, subsection 1, Code 1997, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. A person born after January 1, 1967, shall not obtain a 1 4 hunting license unless the person has satisfactorily completed 1 5 a hunter safety and ethics education course approved by the 1 6 commission. A certificate of completion from an approved 1 7 hunter safety and ethics education course shallnotbe issued 1 8 only to a personunderwho is twelve years of age or older 1 9 when the person successfully completes the training and final 1 10 examination for the hunter safety and ethics education course. 1 11 A certificate of completion from an approved hunter safety 1 12 and ethics education course issued in this state since 1960, 1 13 by another state or by a province of Canada, is valid for the 1 14 requirements of this section, provided the applicant is twelve 1 15 years of age or older. 1 16 Sec. 2. Section 483A.27, subsection 2, Code 1997, is 1 17 amended to read as follows: 1 18 2. A certificate of completion shall not be issued to a 1 19 person who has not satisfactorily completed a minimum of ten 1 20 hours of training in an approved hunter safety and ethics 1 21 education course. The department shall establish the 1 22 curriculum for the first ten hours of an approved hunter 1 23 safety and ethics education course offered in this state. 1 24 Upon completion of the ten-hour curriculum and passing a final 1 25 examination on the course by correctly answering at least 1 26 eighty-five percent of the questions, a certificate of 1 27 completion shall be awarded to the applicant.An examination1 28shall not be required for the award of the certificate.1 29 EXPLANATION 1 30 This bill requires that each person participating in an 1 31 approved hunter safety and ethics education course shall be 12 1 32 years of age or older on the date of the final examination for 1 33 completion of the course and that the final examination is 1 34 passed by correctly answering 85 percent or more of the final 1 35 test questions. 2 1 LSB 1066XS 77 2 2 tj/sc/14
