Section 411.15, Code 1997, is amended 1 6 to read as follows: 1 7 411.15 HOSPITALIZATION AND MEDICAL ATTENTION. 1 8 Cities shall provide hospital, nursing, and medical 1 9 attention for the members of the police and fire 1 10 departments of the cities, when injured while in the 1 11 performance of their duties as members of such 1 12 department, and shall continue to provide hospital, 1 13 nursing, and medical attention for injuries or 1 14 diseases incurred while in the performance of their 1 15 duties for members receiving a retirement allowance 1 16 under section 411.6, subsection 6, and the. Cities 1 17 may provide the hospital, nursing, and medical 1 18 attention required by this section through the 1 19 purchase of insurance, by self-insuring the 1 20 obligation, or through payment of moneys into a local 1 21 government risk pool established for the purpose of 1 22 covering the costs associated with the requirements of 1 23 this section. The cost of providing the hospital, 1 24 nursing, and medical attention required by this 1 25 section shall be paid from moneys held in a trust and 1 26 agency fund established pursuant to section 384.6, or 1 27 out of the appropriation for the department to which 1 28 the injured person belongs or belonged; provided that 1 29 any amounts received by the injured person under the 1 30 workers' compensation law of the state, or from any 1 31 other source for such specific purposes, shall be 1 32 deducted from the amount paid by the city under the 1 33 provisions of this section." 1 34 #2. Page 92, by inserting after line 30 the 1 35 following: 1 36 "Sec. ___. NEW SECTION. 364.25 RETIREE HEALTH 1 37 CARE. 1 38 A city may provide health or medical insurance 1 39 coverage or supplemental coverage to retired employees 1 40 of the city. A city providing health or medical 1 41 insurance coverage pursuant to this section may 1 42 establish such requirements or restrictions concerning 1 43 the coverage provided as the city may adopt. If 1 44 coverage is provided, the cost of the health or 1 45 medical insurance coverage shall be paid from moneys 1 46 held in a trust and agency fund established pursuant 1 47 to section 384.6, or out of an appropriation from the 1 48 city general fund for this purpose. 1 49 Sec. . Section 384.6, subsection 1, Code 1997, 1 50 is amended to read as follows: 2 1 1. Accounting for pension and related employee 2 2 benefit funds as provided by the city finance 2 3 committee. A city may make contributions to a 2 4 retirement system other than the Iowa public 2 5 employees' retirement system for its city manager, or 2 6 city administrator performing the duties of city 2 7 manager, in an annual amount not to exceed the amount 2 8 that would have been contributed by the employer under 2 9 section 97B.11. If a police chief or fire chief has 2 10 submitted a written request to the board of trustees 2 11 to be exempt from chapter 411, authorized in section 2 12 411.3, subsection 1, a city shall make contributions 2 13 for the chief, in an amount not to exceed the amount 2 14 that would have been contributed by the city under 2 15 section 411.8, subsection 1, paragraph "a", to the 2 16 international city management association/retirement 2 17 corporation. A city may certify taxes to be levied 2 18 for a trust and agency fund in the amount necessary to 2 19 meet its obligations. For purposes of this 2 20 subsection, "related employee benefit funds" includes 2 21 amounts held for the purpose of paying the costs 2 22 required pursuant to sections 364.25 and 411.15." 2 23 #3.
