  1  1    Amend Senate File 2023, as passed by the Senate, as
  1  2 follows:
  1  3    #1.  Page 1, by inserting after line 11 the
  1  4 following:
  1  5    "Sec. ___.  Section 321.34, subsection 19, Code
  1  6 Supplement 1997, is amended to read as follows:
  1  7    19.  UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES RETIRED SPECIAL
  1  8 PLATES.  An owner referred to in subsection 12 who is
  1  9 a retired member of the United States armed forces,
  1 10 may, upon written application to the department and
  1 11 upon presentation of satisfactory proof of membership,
  1 12 order special registration plates with a United States
  1 13 armed forces retired processed emblem.  The emblem
  1 14 shall be designed by the department in consultation
  1 15 with service organizations.  The application is
  1 16 subject to approval by the department.  For purposes
  1 17 of this subsection, a person is considered to be
  1 18 retired if the person served twenty years or longer in
  1 19 the United States armed forces or is a person who
  1 20 served a minimum of ten years and received an
  1 21 honorable discharge from service due to a medical
  1 22 disqualification."
  1 23    #2.  Page 1, by inserting after line 11 the
  1 24 following:
  1 25    "Sec. ___.  Section 321.34, Code Supplement 1997,
  1 26 is amended by adding the following new subsection:
  1 27    NEW SUBSECTION.  10A.  EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
  1 28 PLATES.  The owner of a motor vehicle subject to
  1 29 registration pursuant to section 321.109, subsection
  1 30 1, light delivery truck, panel delivery truck, pickup,
  1 31 motor home, multipurpose vehicle, or travel trailer
  1 32 who is a current member of a paid or volunteer
  1 33 emergency medical services agency, may upon written
  1 34 application to the department, order special
  1 35 registration plates, designed by the department in
  1 36 cooperation with representatives designated by the
  1 37 Iowa emergency medical services association, which
  1 38 plates signify that the applicant is a current member
  1 39 of a paid or volunteer emergency medical services
  1 40 agency.  The application shall be approved by the
  1 41 department, in consultation with representatives
  1 42 designated by the Iowa emergency medical services
  1 43 association, and the special registration plates shall
  1 44 be issued to the applicant in exchange for the
  1 45 registration plates previously issued to the person.
  1 46 The fee for the special plates shall be twenty-five
  1 47 dollars which shall be in addition to the regular
  1 48 annual registration fee.  The department shall
  1 49 validate the special plates in the same manner as
  1 50 regular registration plates are validated under this
  2  1 section at the regular annual registration fee."
  2  2    #3.  Title page, line 1, by inserting after the
  2  3 words "issuance of" the following:  "United States
  2  4 armed forces retired special plates, to the issuance
  2  5 of".
  2  6    #4.  Title page, line 2, by inserting after the
  2  7 word "spouses" the following:  "and to the issuance of
  2  8 emergency medical services motor vehicle registration
  2  9 plates and establishing fees".
  2 10    #5.  By renumbering, relettering, or redesignating
  2 11 and correcting internal references as necessary.
