  1  1    Amend Senate File 2224 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 1, by inserting after line 19 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec. ___.  1996 Iowa Acts, chapter 1131, section
  1  5 5, is amended to read as follows:
  1  6    DOMESTIC ABUSE TREATMENT PILOT PROGRAM.
  1  7 Notwithstanding section 708.2A, a court, located in a
  1  8 county which has been designated by the supreme court
  1  9 as a county establishing an alternative batterers'
  1 10 treatment pilot program, shall sentence a person who
  1 11 pleads guilty to or is convicted of domestic abuse
  1 12 assault under section 708.2A to either a batterers'
  1 13 treatment program under section 708.2B or the
  1 14 alternative batterers' pilot program established in
  1 15 the county.
  1 16    The judicial district in which the county is
  1 17 located shall report to the general assembly not later
  1 18 than January 15 of each year regarding the alternative
  1 19 batterers' pilot program. The judicial district shall
  1 20 submit a final an intermediate report not later than
  1 21 August 1, 1998, regarding the progress of the pilot
  1 22 program.
  1 23    This section is repealed effective June 30, 1998,
  1 24 except that the date for submission of the 2000.  The
  1 25 judicial district shall submit a final report shall
  1 26 remain regarding the alternative batterers' pilot
  1 27 program to the general assembly not later than August
  1 28 1, 1998 2000."
  1 29    #2.  Title page, line 4, by striking the word
  1 30 "and".
  1 31    #3.  Title page, line 6, by inserting after the
  1 32 word "services" the following:  ", and extending the
  1 33 pilot project for an alternative batterers' treatment
  1 34 program"
