  1  1    Amend Senate File 2366 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 14, by inserting after line 13 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec. ___.  Section 257A.5, Code 1997, is amended
  1  5 by adding the following new subsection:
  1  6    NEW SUBSECTION.  9.  Develop a mathematics
  1  7 instructional practices research pilot program for use
  1  8 by public school districts to support and encourage an
  1  9 enthusiastic force of collaborative mathematics
  1 10 teachers who are well-prepared in content and pedagogy
  1 11 and knowledgeable in research in the best practices
  1 12 available for teaching mathematics.  The program shall
  1 13 be developed using current foundation funds, although
  1 14 the foundation is encouraged to seek additional
  1 15 private funding sources for the program.  The
  1 16 foundation shall design the program to encompass all
  1 17 of the mathematics teachers employed by various sized
  1 18 districts, including large, medium, and small-sized
  1 19 school districts.  For purposes of this section, a
  1 20 large school district is a district with an actual
  1 21 enrollment of five thousand or more pupils; a medium-
  1 22 sized school district is a district with an actual
  1 23 enrollment that is greater than one thousand one
  1 24 hundred ninety-nine pupils, but less than five
  1 25 thousand pupils; and a small school district is a
  1 26 district with an actual enrollment of one thousand one
  1 27 hundred ninety-nine or fewer pupils."

  1 29 as necessary.
