PAG LIN 1 1 Amend Senate File 503 as follows: 1 2 #1. Page 5, by inserting after line 26, the 1 3 following: 1 4 "Sec. ___. NEW SECTION. 901.11 CONDITIONS OF 1 5 COMMITMENT TO CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION. 1 6 In addition to any other terms and conditions that 1 7 the court may impose, for persons who are convicted of 1 8 an offense which is punishable by a sentence of 1 9 confinement of more than one year, and who receive a 1 10 sentence of confinement of more than one year, the 1 11 court shall order that the person do all of the 1 12 following prior to discharge of the person's sentence: 1 13 1. Complete at least thirty hours per week of hard 1 14 labor, as defined under section 904.701, which is 1 15 designed to demonstrate the person's ability to assume 1 16 responsibility, work hard, and to complete projects. 1 17 2. Complete minimum educational competencies, 1 18 commensurate with the person's abilities, which may 1 19 include but is not limited to obtaining a high school 1 20 equivalency diploma under chapter 259A. 1 21 3. If the person has children, attend and 1 22 successfully complete parenting training programs. 1 23 4. Participate in vocational training. 1 24 5. Complete any applicable treatment programs, 1 25 including but not limited to sex offender and 1 26 substance abuse treatment. 1 27 6. Participate in team sports." 1 28 #2. Page 7, by inserting after line 15, the 1 29 following: 1 30 "Sec. ___. NEW SECTION. 904.517 RESTORATIVE 1 31 JUSTICE. 1 32 A person who has been committed to the custody of 1 33 the director of the department of corrections for an 1 34 offense for which the maximum penalty is ten years or 1 35 more may enroll in a program of restorative justice 1 36 established by the department. The program shall be 1 37 designed to help the inmate to earn compensation which 1 38 would enable the inmate to repay any amounts owed by 1 39 the inmate as a result of the commission of the 1 40 offense and to benefit other inmates within the 1 41 institutions. The program may include, but is not 1 42 limited to, programs which lead to the attainment of 1 43 specific competencies in teaching, computer use, or 1 44 specific vocational skills; programs which cause the 1 45 inmate to direct or lead discussion groups on positive 1 46 social skills, including, but not limited to, good 1 47 grooming, language skills, and job interviewing; and 1 48 programs which involve the inmate in contributing to 1 49 the physical improvement of the institution in which 1 50 the inmate resides." 2 1 #3. Title page, line 3, by inserting after the 2 2 word "minors," the following: "providing enhanced 2 3 conditions of release for persons sentenced to 2 4 confinement of more than one year, providing for a 2 5 restorative justice program,". 2 6 #4.
