1 1 Section 1. VOLUNTEERISM PROGRAM. The department of
1 2 economic development shall implement and administer a one-year
1 3 program on volunteerism beginning July 1, 1998. The
1 4 department may provide grants to counties in order to provide
1 5 assistance in implementing and administering America's promise
1 6 programs. All counties in the state shall be eligible to
1 7 participate in the program. The department shall develop the
1 8 criteria for receiving grant moneys. The criteria shall
1 9 include, but not be limited to, need and the impact of the
1 10 program.
1 11 Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION – VOLUNTEERISM. There is
1 12 appropriated from the general fund of the state to the
1 13 department of economic development for the fiscal year
1 14 beginning July 1, 1998, and ending June 30, 1999, the
1 15 following amount, or so much thereof as is necessary, to be
1 16 used for the purpose designated:
1 17 For implementing and administering the volunteerism program
1 18 pursuant to this Act:
1 19 .................................................. $ 500,000
1 20 EXPLANATION
1 21 This bill creates a volunteerism program which shall be
1 22 implemented and administered by the department of economic
1 23 development. The program shall be a one-year program and all
1 24 counties in the state shall be eligible to participate. The
1 25 department may provide grants to counties in order to provide
1 26 assistance in implementing and administering America's promise
1 27 programs. The department shall develop criteria for receiving
1 28 grant moneys. The bill appropriates $500,000 to the
1 29 department for implementing and administering the program.
