  1  1    Section 1.  There is appropriated from the general fund of
  1  2 the state to the commission of veterans affairs for the fiscal
  1  3 year beginning July 1, 1998, and ending June 30, 1999, the
  1  4 following amount, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to
  1  5 be used for the purposes designated:
  1  6    For a site analysis and preliminary plan for the
  1  7 construction of a state veterans cemetery:  
  1  8 .................................................. $     35,000
  1  9    The funds appropriated shall be utilized by the commission
  1 10 to identify potential location sites for a state veterans
  1 11 cemetery, to conduct a site analysis regarding suitability of
  1 12 the locations identified for a state veterans cemetery, and to
  1 13 develop a preliminary plan regarding the size, configuration,
  1 14 and landscaping of a state veterans cemetery, and the
  1 15 classifications of veterans intended for burial in the
  1 16 cemetery.  The plan shall also address coordination of the
  1 17 operation of a state veterans cemetery with the interment of
  1 18 honorably discharged individuals by the respective county
  1 19 commissions of veterans affairs pursuant to section 35B.13.
  1 20 The commission shall submit a report of its findings and
  1 21 recommendations to the general assembly by January 1, 2000.  
  1 22                           EXPLANATION
  1 23    This bill appropriates $35,000 from the general fund of the
  1 24 state to the commission of veterans affairs for the fiscal
  1 25 year beginning July 1, 1998, and ending June 30, 1999, for the
  1 26 development of a site analysis and preliminary plan for the
  1 27 construction of a state veterans cemetery.  The bill provides
  1 28 that the appropriated funds shall be utilized by the
  1 29 commission to identify potential location sites for a state
  1 30 veterans cemetery and conduct a site analysis regarding their
  1 31 suitability, and to develop a preliminary plan regarding the
  1 32 size, configuration, and landscaping of a state veterans
  1 33 cemetery, and the classifications of veterans intended for
  1 34 burial in the cemetery.  The bill provides that the plan shall
  1 35 address coordination of the operation of a state veterans
  2  1 cemetery with the interment of honorably discharged
  2  2 individuals by the respective county commissions of veterans
  2  3 affairs.  The bill additionally provides that the commission
  2  4 shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations to
  2  5 the general assembly by January 1, 2000.
