1 1 Section 1. Section 18.12, Code 1997, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 19A. Determine and make a recommendation
1 4 to the governor and the general assembly of the feasibility
1 5 and desirability of reimbursing the city of Des Moines for the
1 6 police and fire protection provided by the city for state-
1 7 owned buildings and facilities located in the city within or
1 8 without the capitol complex, including state-owned buildings
1 9 and facilities at the state fairgrounds. If the
1 10 recommendation is to reimburse the city, the department shall
1 11 determine the amount to be appropriated for purposes of
1 12 reimbursing the city for providing the police and fire
1 13 protection.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 The bill requires the department of general services to
1 16 determine and make a recommendation to the governor and
1 17 general assembly of the feasibility and desirability of
1 18 reimbursing the city of Des Moines for providing police and
1 19 fire protection for state-owned buildings and facilities in
1 20 the city. If the recommendation is to reimburse the city, the
1 21 department shall determine the amount to be appropriated for
1 22 purposes of reimbursing the city.
