  1  1    Section 1.  Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraph b,
  1  2 Code 1997, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    b.  Upon written application on forms furnished by the
  1  4 department, the department shall issue annually without fee
  1  5 one deer or one wild turkey license, or both, to the owner of
  1  6 a farm unit or to a member of the owner's family, but not to
  1  7 both, and to the tenant or to a member of the tenant's family,
  1  8 but not to both.  The deer hunting license or wild turkey
  1  9 hunting license issued shall be valid only on in the hunting
  1 10 zone in which the farm unit for which of an applicant
  1 11 qualifies pursuant to this subsection is located and shall be
  1 12 equivalent to the least restrictive license issued under
  1 13 section 481A.38.  The owner or the tenant need not reside on
  1 14 the farm unit to qualify for a free license to hunt on that
  1 15 farm unit.  
  1 16                           EXPLANATION
  1 17    This bill provides that the free deer hunting license and
  1 18 free wild turkey hunting license issued to a owner, tenant, or
  1 19 their family members are valid for hunting within the hunting
  1 20 zone in which the farm unit is located.
