1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION ___
1 2 BY LARSON, SUKUP, HAHN, BARRY, THOMSON,
1 3 VAN FOSSEN, MARTIN, WISE, FALCK, BELL,
1 4 MERTZ, and THOMAS
1 5 A Concurrent Resolution recognizing and commending
1 6 the efforts of organizers of the Iowa Summit on
1 7 Volunteerism.
1 8 WHEREAS, in 1997, the Presidents' Summit for
1 9 America's Future was convened by President Bill
1 10 Clinton and former President George Bush to initiate a
1 11 nationwide campaign to engage every American in
1 12 volunteer service; and
1 13 WHEREAS, during the Presidents' Summit for
1 14 America's Future every Governor was charged with
1 15 carrying the Summit's call to action to every citizen
1 16 in every state; and
1 17 WHEREAS, Governor Terry Branstad announced his
1 18 commitment to the goals of the Presidents' Summit for
1 19 America's Future with the ushering in of Iowa's own
1 20 summit entitled "America's Promise . . . Iowa Style -
1 21 The Iowa Summit on Volunteerism"; and
1 22 WHEREAS, the Iowa Summit on Volunteerism will take
1 23 place at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on June
1 24 10 and 11, 1998; and
1 25 WHEREAS, the goal of the Iowa Summit on
1 26 Volunteerism is to provide young people with the
1 27 resources essential for building healthy, fulfilling,
1 28 and productive lives; and
1 29 WHEREAS, the Iowa Summit on Volunteerism will
1 30 celebrate the current involvement of Iowans in
2 1 volunteer service and will encourage others to join
2 2 the volunteer crusade; and
2 3 WHEREAS, at least 2,000 individuals are expected to
2 4 be in attendance at the Iowa Summit on Volunteerism;
2 5 NOW THEREFORE,
2 6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
2 7 SENATE CONCURRING, That the organizers of the Iowa
2 8 Summit on Volunteerism are recognized and commended
2 9 for their extraordinary efforts in planning,
2 10 preparing, and organizing this beneficial and
2 11 worthwhile event; and
2 12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
2 13 resolution be sent to Governor Branstad and leaders of
2 14 the steering and executive committees organizing the
2 15 Iowa Summit on Volunteerism.
