PAG LIN 1 1 Amend Senate File 2023, as passed by the Senate, as 1 2 follows: 1 3 #1. Page 1, by inserting after line 11 the 1 4 following: 1 5 "Sec. ___. Section 321.34, subsection 16, Code 1 6 Supplement 1997, is amended to read as follows: 1 7 16. NATIONAL GUARD SPECIAL PLATES. An owner 1 8 referred to in subsection 12 who is a member of the 1 9 national guard, as defined in chapter 29A, may, upon 1 10 written application to the department, order special 1 11 registration plates with a national guard processed 1 12 emblem with the emblem designed by the department in 1 13 cooperation with the adjutant general which emblem 1 14 signifies that the applicant is a member of the 1 15 national guard. The application shall be approved by 1 16 the department in consultation with the adjutant 1 17 general. Special registration plates with a national 1 18 guard processed emblem shall be surrendered, as 1 19 provided in subsection 12, in exchange for regular 1 20 registration plates upon termination of the owner's 1 21 membership in the active national guard unless the 1 22 owner completed a minimum of ten years of service and 1 23 received an honorable discharge from service due to a 1 24 medical disqualification. 1 25 Sec. ___. Section 321.34, subsection 19, Code 1 26 Supplement 1997, is amended to read as follows: 1 27 19. UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES RETIRED SPECIAL 1 28 PLATES. An owner referred to in subsection 12 who is 1 29 a retired member of the United States armed forces, 1 30 may, upon written application to the department and 1 31 upon presentation of satisfactory proof of membership, 1 32 order special registration plates with a United States 1 33 armed forces retired processed emblem. The emblem 1 34 shall be designed by the department in consultation 1 35 with service organizations. The application is 1 36 subject to approval by the department. For purposes 1 37 of this subsection, a person is considered to be 1 38 retired if the person served twenty years or longer in 1 39 the United States armed forces or is a person who 1 40 served a minimum of ten years and received an 1 41 honorable discharge from service due to a medical 1 42 disqualification." 1 43 1 44 1 45 1 46 MURPHY of Dubuque 1 47 SF 2023.501 77 1 48 jm/jw/28
