1 1 Amend the amendment, H-1552, to Senate File 519, as
1 2 amended, passed, and reprinted by the Senate, as
1 3 follows:
1 4 #1. Page 3, by inserting after line 40 the
1 5 following:
1 6 "3. A nonprofit institution of higher education or
1 7 an institution under the control of the board of
1 8 regents may petition the commission for an extension
1 9 of the authorization to utilize dial-up access for
1 10 Iowa communications network services. The commission
1 11 shall provide a copy of the petition to the
1 12 telecommunications advisory committee. The committee
1 13 may advise the commission regarding telecommunications
1 14 matters related to the petition. The commission may
1 15 grant the petition if the commission determines that
1 16 technology is not available to prohibit such dial-up
1 17 access. The commission and the institution
1 18 petitioning for continued authorization under this
1 19 subsection shall devise a plan to assist the
1 20 institution in obtaining alternate access services in
1 21 lieu of the dial-up access to the Iowa communications
1 22 network.""
