  1  1    Amend House File 636 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 33, by inserting after line 28 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec. ___.  Section 53.11, Code 1997, is amended by
  1  5 adding the following new unnumbered paragraph:
  1  6    NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH.  A petition requesting a
  1  7 satellite absentee voting station must be filed by the
  1  8 following deadlines:
  1  9    1.  For a primary or general election, no later
  1 10 than five p.m. on the forty-seventh day before the
  1 11 election.
  1 12    2.  For the regular city election, no later than
  1 13 five p.m. on the thirtieth day before the election.
  1 14    3.  For the regular school election, no later than
  1 15 five p.m. on the thirtieth day before the election.
  1 16    4.  For a special election, no later than thirty-
  1 17 two days before the special election.
  1 18    Sec. ___.  Section 53.11, unnumbered paragraph 2,
  1 19 Code 1997, is amended to read as follows:
  1 20    Satellite absentee voting stations shall be
  1 21 established throughout the cities and county at the
  1 22 direction of the commissioner or upon receipt of a
  1 23 petition signed by not less than one hundred eligible
  1 24 electors requesting that a satellite absentee voting
  1 25 station be established at a location to be described
  1 26 on the petition.  A petition requesting a satellite
  1 27 absentee voting station must be filed no later than
  1 28 five p.m. on the eleventh day before the election.  A
  1 29 satellite absentee voting station established by
  1 30 petition must be open at least one day from eight a.m.
  1 31 until five p.m for a minimum of six hours.  A
  1 32 satellite absentee voting station established at the
  1 33 direction of the commissioner or by petition may
  1 34 remain open until five p.m. on the day before the
  1 35 election."
