EARLY EVENING SESSION
The House reconvened at 5:00 p.m., Speaker Corbett in the chair.
MESSAGE FROM THE SENATE
The following message was received from the Senate:
Mr. Speaker: I am directed to inform your honorable body that
the Senate has on April 29, 1996, refused to concur in the House
amendment to the Senate amendment to the following bill in which
the concurrence of the Senate was asked:
House File 2387, a bill for an act relating to the office of
secretary of state and the conduct of elections and voter
registration in the state and relating to corrective and
technical changes to Iowa's election laws, and providing an
effective date.

HOUSE INSISTS
Jacobs of Polk called up for consideration House File 2387, a
bill for an act relating to the office of secretary of state and
the conduct of elections and voter registration in the state and
relating to corrective and technical changes to Iowa's election
laws, and providing an effective date and moved that the House
insist on its amendment.
A non-record roll call was requested.
The ayes were 42, nays 17.
The motion prevailed and the House insists. 

CONFERENCE COMMITTEE APPOINTED
(House File 2387)
The Speaker announced the appointment of the conference
committee to consider the differences between the House and
Senate concerning House File 2387: Jacobs of Polk, Chair; Martin
of Scott, Drake of Pottawattamie, Witt of Black Hawk and Jochum
of Dubuque.
IMMEDIATE MESSAGE
Siegrist of Pottawattamie asked and received unanimous consent
that House File 2387 be immediately messaged to the Senate.
ADOPTION OF HOUSE RESOLUTION 111
Myers of Johnson called up for consideration of House Resolution
111, a House resolution urging the Commission of Veterans
Affairs to provide for the establishment of a state veterans'
cemetery in central Iowa, and moved its adoption.
The motion prevailed and the resolution was adopted.
