    Committee Business: Assigned bills to subcommittees; amended and
    approved SSB 161 as a committee bill; approved SSB 235 as a committee
    bill; recommended passage of Senate File 106 as amended; recommended
    passage of Senate Files 40, 64, 197 and 251.

                                    PETITIONS

         The following petitions were presented and placed on file by:

         Senator Szymoniak from 104 residents of Polk County opposing
    reinstatement of the death penalty.

         The following petitions favoring issuance of motor vehicle licenses
    by county treasurers were presented and placed on file by:

         Senator Douglas from 18 residents of Guthrie County.

         Senator Douglas from 99 residents of Madison County.

         Senator Priebe from 272 residents of Wright County.

         Senator Sorensen from 192 residents of Greene County.

         Senator Zieman from 238 residents of Allamakee County.

         Senator Zieman from 173 residents of Fayette County.



                           CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION

         The secretary of the senate issued certificates of recognition as
    follows:

         Joe Melssen, Dubuque - For over 41 years of dedicated service on
    the Dubuque Fire Department. Senator Connolly (3-28-95).
