    Final Bill Action: SENATE RESOLUTION 8, a senate resolution urging the
    Congress of the United States to continue its progress in reducing the
    federal deficit and to provide to the state of Iowa information on the
    impact that achieving a balanced federal budget will have on the State.

    Recommendation: DO PASS.

    Final Vote: Ayes, 21: Boswell, Lind, Banks, Bartz, Bisignano, Black,
    Borlaug, Dvorsky, Flynn, Fraise, Gronstal, Hammond, Husak, Judge,
    Kibbie, Kramer, McLaren, Neuhauser, Rensink, Tinsman and Vilsack. Nays,
    none. Absent or not voting, 4: Murphy, Douglas, Halvorson and Iverson.

    Fiscal Note: NOT REQUIRED UNDER JOINT RULE 17.



    STATE GOVERNMENT

    Final Bill Action: SENATE FILE 5, a bill for an act relating to the
    appointment and employment of the director of the department of
    education and enacting a transitional provision.

    Recommendation: DO PASS.

    Final Vote: Ayes, 8: Gronstal, Kibbie, Bisignano, Connolly, Dearden,
    Fink, Lundby and Sorensen. Nays, 7: Rittmer, Bennett, Drake, Giannetto,
    Halvorson, Lind and McLaren.

    Final Bill Action: SENATE FILE 10, a bill for an act relating to the
    appointment and senate confirmation of the executive director of the
    office of the state board of regents and providing an effective date.
