FORTY-SIXTH CALENDAR DAY TWENTY-NINTH SESSION DAY Senate Chamber Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday, February 23, 1995 The Senate met in regular session at 9:04 a.m., President Boswell presiding. HOUSE MESSAGES RECEIVED AND CONSIDERED The following messages were received from the Chief Clerk of the House: MR. PRESIDENT: I am directed to inform your honorable body that the House has on February 21, 1995, passed the following bill in which the concurrence of the House was asked: Senate File 84, a bill for an act relating to individual health insurance and individual health benefit plan reforms, and establishing an income tax credit for certain individuals. ALSO: That the House has on February 20, 1995, adopted the following resolution in which the concurrence of the Senate is asked: House Concurrent Resolution 14, a concurrent resolution to urge the Governor and the citizens of Iowa to make available to the people of Japan all appropriate aid and assistance to help the people of Japan recover from the disastrous earthquake of January 17, 1995. SPECIAL GUEST Senator Sorensen presented Chandra Herrstrom from Boone, 1995 Iowa Pork Queen. Ms. Herrstrom, who was selected by the Iowa Pork Producers, said that pork production represents jobs for 93,000 Iowans and two-thirds of those jobs are created off the farm in the input supply and further processing industries. She stated that as she travels around the state and country, she hopes to reinforce the message that pork production is one of the factors that make Iowas rural communities and state a great place to live. CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTIONS (Regular Calendar) Senator Horn asked and received unanimous consent to take up for consideration House Concurrent Resolutions 20 and 21 and Senate Joint Resolution 12. House Concurrent Resolution 21 On motion of Senator Rife, House Concurrent Resolution 21, a concurrent resolution honoring Ms. Sugar Macaulay upon her retirement as the Capitol Tour Guide Supervisor, with report of committee recommending passage, was taken up for consideration. Senator Rife moved the adoption of House Concurrent Resolution 21, which motion prevailed by a voice vote. House Concurrent Resolution 20 On motion of Senator Husak, House Concurrent Resolution 20, a concurrent resolution relating to Pioneer Lawmakers, with report of committee recommending passage, was taken up for consideration. Senator Husak moved the adoption of House Concurrent Resolution 20, which motion prevailed by a voice vote.
