1 3 RESOLUTION BY CHAIRPERSON SZYMONIAK)
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution designating the week of
1 5 January 7-14, 1996, as Children's Week in Iowa.
1 6 WHEREAS, a healthy future for Iowa is dependent upon a
1 7 healthy present for Iowa's children; and
1 8 WHEREAS, the emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being
1 9 of children is directly dependent upon the actions of the
1 10 family, community, and government; and
1 11 WHEREAS, the first Children's Week was established in 1986
1 12 in Iowa by the Iowa Commission on Children, Youth and
1 13 Families, making this the 11th observance of Children's Week
1 14 in Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
1 15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
1 16 CONCURRING, That the General Assembly designates the week of
1 17 January 7-14, 1996, as Children's Week in Iowa.
1 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the General Assembly
1 19 encourages Iowa's citizens to set good examples for Iowa's
1 20 children, involve children in positive activities, advocate
1 21 for children's education, work to develop the potential all
1 22 children possess, listen to children, celebrate children,
1 23 recognize children as part of the community, and appreciate
1 24 the valuable resource children represent for Iowa's future.
1 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the General Assembly requests
1 26 that the Governor issue a proclamation calling upon the people
1 27 of Iowa to observe the week of January 7-14, 1996, as
1 28 Children's Week.
