1 2 BY COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS
1 3 (SUCCESSOR TO SSB 370)
1 4 A Resolution honoring the service of Dr. Constantine
1 5 W. Curris as President of the University of
1 6 Northern Iowa.
1 7 WHEREAS, Dr. Constantine W. Curris is leaving the
1 8 University of Northern Iowa after having served as its
1 9 President since August 1983, to serve as President of
1 10 Clemson University; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Dr. Constantine "Deno" Curris has provided
1 12 valuable service to the University of Northern Iowa
1 13 and all Iowans as President of the University; and
1 14 WHEREAS, President Curris has provided national
1 15 leadership in the reform of teacher education; and
1 16 WHEREAS, President Curris has emphasized the
1 17 development of the college of business administration
1 18 and other resources of the University as part of a
1 19 dynamic partnership to boost the economic resurgence
1 20 of Iowa by providing needed services to Iowa
1 21 communities and small businesses; and
1 22 WHEREAS, President Curris has placed renewed
1 23 emphasis upon undergraduate education and teaching
1 24 excellence at the University; and
1 25 WHEREAS, President Curris has expanded the
1 26 international studies experiences at the University to
1 27 prepare students for life in the twenty-first century;
1 28 and
1 29 WHEREAS, President Curris has fostered a student-
1 30 centered philosophy at the University and has
2 1 consistently sought to make the university experience
2 2 as accessible and affordable for as many students as
2 3 possible; and
2 4 WHEREAS, President Curris has taken an active role
2 5 in public policy issues while maintaining both
2 6 institutional and personal credibility; and
2 7 WHEREAS, President Curris, and his wife, Jo, have
2 8 provided valuable service to all Iowans, and
2 9 especially to the University of Northern Iowa
2 10 community, during his tenure as President of the
2 11 University of Northern Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
2 12 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Iowa Senate
2 13 expresses the appreciation of all Iowans for the
2 14 valued service of Dr. Constantine Curris as he
2 15 completes his tenure as President of the University of
2 16 Northern Iowa.
2 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the
2 18 Senate prepare a copy of this Resolution for
2 19 presentation to Dr. Constantine Curris and his wife,
2 20 Jo.
