1 2 BY COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS AND
1 3 INFORMATION POLICY
1 4 (SUCCESSOR TO LSB 2530SC)
1 5 A Concurrent Resolution recommending that the
1 6 Iowa Telecommunications and Technology Commission
1 7 reconsider and rescind the user fees as originally
1 8 established by the Commission.
1 9 WHEREAS, the Iowa communications network was
1 10 established primarily to be used by educational
1 11 institutions for the purpose of improving education in
1 12 this state; and
1 13 WHEREAS, use of the Iowa communications network by
1 14 educational institutions in this state is critical to
1 15 improving educational opportunities for all; NOW
1 16 THEREFORE,
1 17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 18 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the General Assembly
1 19 strongly recommends that the Iowa Telecommunications
1 20 and Technology Commission rescind the action taken by
1 21 the Commission to establish user fees and reevaluate
1 22 and reestablish those fees in a manner which will
1 23 foster the utilization of the network to the fullest
1 24 extent possible given the considerations provided for
1 25 in chapter 8D of the Iowa Code; and
1 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the evaluation and
1 27 reestablishment of those fees should be completed
1 28 prior to April 1, 1995, and submitted to the General
1 29 Assembly; and
1 30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage by the
2 1 Senate and the House of Representatives, copies of
2 2 this resolution immediately be transmitted to the
2 3 members of the Iowa Telecommunications and Technology
2 4 Commission and the Executive Director of the
2 5 Commission.
