1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY McCOY
1 3 A House Resolution to honor professional truck drivers
1 4 who serve their country each day by safely and
1 5 efficiently delivering freight vital to the welfare
1 6 of the United States.
1 7 WHEREAS, the economic welfare of the United States
1 8 is contingent upon the transportation of 5.5 billion
1 9 tons of freight carried on the wheels of trucks
1 10 traveling this nation's highways each year; and
1 11 WHEREAS, approximately 3 million professional truck
1 12 drivers conscientiously and efficiently drive more
1 13 than 153 billion miles each year to deliver food, raw
1 14 materials, and manufactured products to homes,
1 15 communities, schools, and businesses throughout this
1 16 nation; and
1 17 WHEREAS, America's professional truck drivers have
1 18 been honored as among the safest of all drivers, and
1 19 have received awards for extraordinary acts of heroism
1 20 for rescuing fellow motorists from injury or death;
1 21 NOW THEREFORE,
1 22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 23 That the week of August 18th through 24th of this year
1 24 be designated as National Truck Driver Appreciation
1 25 Week, in honor of the hard work, dedication, and
1 26 commitment to safety, of these men and women who
1 27 travel the nation's roads in order to make the lives
1 28 of all Americans better; and
1 29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That cities, towns,
1 30 businesses, schools, communities, churches, and other
2 1 civic organizations are encouraged to honor
2 2 professional truck drivers for the vital role that
2 3 they play in the life of America, including by
2 4 sponsoring festivals, fairs, parades, barbecues, and
2 5 banquets; and
2 6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the
2 7 House of Representatives send a copy of this
2 8 Resolution to the Des Moines Register and to the Iowa
2 9 Motor Truck Association.
