  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 102
  1  2                BY  SIEGRIST and CORBETT
  1  3 A House Resolution honoring Iowa State University's
  1  4    football running back Troy Davis.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa were excited and
  1  6 entertained by the electrifying exploits of Troy Davis
  1  7 during the 1995 football season at Iowa State
  1  8 University; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, Troy Davis led the nation in rushing at
  1 10 182.7 yards per game and in all-purpose yards at 224.2
  1 11 yards per game; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, Troy Davis was the first sophomore in
  1 13 National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA) history
  1 14 to reach the 1000-yard mark during the first five
  1 15 games of the season; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, Troy Davis finished the season having
  1 17 rushed for 2,010 yards, ranking him fifth on the all-
  1 18 time NCAA list for most rushing yards gained in a
  1 19 single season; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, Troy Davis amassed these statistics
  1 21 against a schedule that matched the Cyclones against
  1 22 four teams rated in the top 10 in the final polls,
  1 23 including the eventual national champions, as well as
  1 24 playing against the Iowa Hawkeyes, Sun Bowl champions;
  1 25 and
  1 26    WHEREAS, Troy Davis was chosen as the Big Eight
  1 27 Player of the Year by the magazine "Football News";
  1 28 and
  1 29    WHEREAS, Troy Davis was chosen as a first-team All-
  1 30 American by the Associated Press and as an All-
  2  1 American by United Press International, Football News,
  2  2 and Walter Camp; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, Troy Davis was chosen as a finalist for
  2  4 college football's most prestigious award, the Heisman
  2  5 Trophy; and
  2  6    WHEREAS, Troy Davis always put the interests of his
  2  7 team ahead of his own interests, credited his
  2  8 teammates for his success, and distinguished the state
  2  9 of Iowa with his stellar attitude and model behavior
  2 10 on and off the field; and
  2 11    WHEREAS, Troy Davis also performed well in the
  2 12 classroom during the fall semester of 1995, earning
  2 13 commendable academic marks; and
  2 14    WHEREAS, the entire Cyclone football team and Iowa
  2 15 State University head coach Dan McCarney merit praise
  2 16 for their important contributions to Troy Davis'
  2 17 success; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 18    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 19 That Troy Davis be congratulated for his
  2 20 accomplishments during the 1995 football season at
  2 21 Iowa State University.
  2 22    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Troy Davis and his
  2 23 future Cyclone brother, Darren Davis, are wished the
  2 24 best of luck and continued success during the 1996
  2 25 football season at Iowa State University.
  2 26    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
  2 27 Resolution be sent to Troy Davis, Iowa State
  2 28 University head football coach Dan McCarney, Darren
  2 29 Davis, and the Davis' parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
  2 30 and Eular Davis of Miami, Florida.
