  1  1    Section 1.  Section 237A.12, subsection 3, Code 1995, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    3.  The adequacy of activity programs and food services
  1  4 available to the children.  The administrator rules shall not
  1  5 restrict the use of or apply nutritional standards to a lunch
  1  6 or other meal which is brought to the center or family day
  1  7 care home by a school-age child for the child's consumption.  
  1  8                           EXPLANATION
  1  9    This bill relates to department of human services' child
  1 10 day care standards involving meals brought by children.  Under
  1 11 current law, the department's administrator for child day care
  1 12 regulation is required to adopt rules for the adequacy of food
  1 13 services available to children.  The current statute prohibits
  1 14 the rules from restricting or applying nutritional standards
  1 15 to lunches or other meals brought to child day care by a
  1 16 school-age child.  The bill deletes a reference to nutritional
  1 17 standards and modifies the prohibition to apply to a child of
  1 18 any age.
