  1  1    Section 1.  Section 483A.24, subsection 2, Code 1995, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    2.  Upon written application, the department shall issue
  1  4 annually a deer or wild turkey hunting license, or both, to
  1  5 the owner of a farm unit or a member of the owner's family of
  1  6 the farm owner who resides with the owner and to the tenant or
  1  7 a member of the tenant's family of the tenant who resides with
  1  8 the tenant.  The deer or wild turkey license is valid only for
  1  9 hunting on the farm unit of the owner or the tenant.
  1 10    Sec. 2.  Section 483A.24, subsections 3 and 4, Code 1995,
  1 11 are amended by striking the subsections.
  1 12    Sec. 3.  Section 483A.24, subsection 7, Code 1995, is
  1 13 amended to read as follows:
  1 14    7.  As used in this section a "farm unit" is all the
  1 15 parcels of land, not necessarily contiguous, which are
  1 16 operated as a unit for agricultural purposes and which are
  1 17 under the lawful control of the landowner or tenant, and a
  1 18 "tenant" is a person, other than the landowner, who resides on
  1 19 the farm unit and is actively engaged in the operation of the
  1 20 farm unit.  
  1 21                           EXPLANATION
  1 22    This bill authorizes the owner of a farm unit who is a
  1 23 nonresident or a member of the owner's family who resides with
  1 24 the owner to receive a free license to hunt deer or wild
  1 25 turkey on the owner's farm unit.  Currently, nonresident
  1 26 owners and their families are not eligible for a free license
  1 27 to hunt deer or wild turkey or both on the owner's farm unit.
