1 1 Section 1. Section 257.8, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 1A. GENERAL ASSEMBLY EXPENSES.
1 4 Notwithstanding section 2.10, subsection 1, if the state
1 5 percent of growth has not been established by the thirtieth
1 6 day, members of the general assembly shall not receive the per
1 7 diem payments for the expenses of office provided for members
1 8 of the general assembly for each day following the thirtieth
1 9 day until the state percent of growth has been established
1 10 under subsection 1 and the maximum number of days that a
1 11 member may receive per diem during the regular session under
1 12 section 210, subsection 1, shall be reduced by the number of
1 13 days for which per diem is not allowed under this subsection.
1 14 Sec. 2. This Act, being deemed of immediate importance,
1 15 takes effect upon enactment.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 The bill provides that if the general assembly has not
1 18 established the state percent of growth within 30 days of the
1 19 submission of the governor's budget, the members shall not be
1 20 paid the expense per diem until such time as it is
1 21 established. The bill takes effect upon enactment.
