1 1 Section 1. Section 707.8, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 4. A person who unintentionally
1 4 terminates a human pregnancy without the consent of the
1 5 pregnant person by the commission of a public offense other
1 6 than a felony or a felony escape is guilty of a class "D"
1 7 felony.
1 8 EXPLANATION
1 9 This bill prohibits the unintentional termination of a
1 10 human pregnancy which is done without the consent of the
1 11 pregnant person and is the result of a commission of a public
1 12 offense other than a felony or a felony escape. A person
1 13 committing the offense is guilty of a class "D" felony. A
1 14 class "D" felony is punishable by imprisonment of no more than
1 15 five years and a fine of at least $500, but not more than
1 16 $7,500.
