1 1 Section 1. Section 321.34, subsection 8, Code 1995, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new unnumbered paragraph:
1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. The surviving spouse of a person
1 4 who was issued special plates under this subsection may
1 5 continue to use the special plates subject to registration of
1 6 the special plates in the surviving spouse's name and upon
1 7 payment of the fifteen dollar annual registration fee. If the
1 8 surviving spouse remarries, the surviving spouse shall return
1 9 the special plates to the department and the department shall
1 10 issue regular registration plates to the surviving spouse.

1 21 EXPLANATION
1 22 This bill allows the surviving spouse of a person who was
1 23 issued a special prisoner of war or a congressional medal of
1 24 honor registration plate to use the plates in the event of the
1 25 registrant's death. The surviving spouse must register the
1 26 plates in the surviving spouse's own name and is subject to
1 27 the special $15 annual registration fee. If the surviving
1 28 spouse remarries, the spouse loses the right to continue to
1 29 use the special registration plate.
