The Senate met in regular session at 1:03 p.m., President Kramer
presiding.

Prayer was offered by the Reverend Douglas B. Haviland, pastor of
Saint John’s by the Campus Church in Ames, Iowa. He was the guest
of Senator Quirmbach.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Senate Page Kristy Palmer.

The Journal of Thursday, April 10, 2003, was approved.

HOUSE MESSAGE RECEIVED AND CONSIDERED

The following message was received from the Chief Clerk of the
House:

MADAM PRESIDENT: I am directed to inform your honorable body that the
House has on April 10, 2003, passed the following bill in which the concurrence of the
Senate is asked:

House File 667, a bill for an act relating to and making
appropriations for health and human services to the department of
elder affairs, the Iowa department of public health, the department of
inspections and appeals, the department of human services, and the
commission of veterans affairs, and providing effective dates.

Read first time and referred to committee on Appropriations.
