1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 282.9 ENROLLMENT OF PERSON
1 2 LISTED ON REGISTRY.
1 3 Notwithstanding sections 275.55A, 256F.4, and 282.18, or
1 4 any other provision to the contrary, a school district shall
1 5 not enroll a person who is required to register as a sex
1 6 offender under chapter 692A, but who is otherwise eligible to
1 7 enroll in a public school, unless the board of directors of
1 8 the school district approves, by a majority vote, the
1 9 enrollment of the person. If a person is denied enrollment in
1 10 a school district under this section, the school district of
1 11 residence shall assist the person in attaining educational
1 12 services in an alternative setting.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill provides that a person who is required to
1 15 register as a sex offender, but who is otherwise eligible for
1 16 enrollment in a school district, shall not be enrolled as a
1 17 student unless the board of directors of the school district
1 18 approves, by a majority vote, the enrollment of the person.
1 19 If a person is denied enrollment by a school district, the
1 20 school district of residence must assist the person in
1 21 attaining educational services in an alternative setting.
