1 2 BY WINCKLER, LYKAM, J. R. VAN FOSSEN,
1 3 HUTTER, J. K. VAN FOSSEN, S. OLSON, BUKTA,
1 4 OSTERHAUS, and HAHN
1 5 A Resolution honoring Dr. John T. Blong, Chancellor of
1 6 Eastern Iowa Community College District.
1 7 WHEREAS, Dr. John T. Blong has provided outstanding
1 8 leadership for Eastern Iowa Community College District
1 9 as chancellor since 1986; and
1 10 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has announced his retirement
1 11 this June as Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community
1 12 College District, ending a distinguished 37-year
1 13 career in Iowa's community colleges; and
1 14 WHEREAS, in his 18 years as chancellor, Eastern
1 15 Iowa Community College District has become synonymous
1 16 with innovation and excellence; and
1 17 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong instituted a Continuous Quality
1 18 Improvement initiative, a national environmental
1 19 training center, and innovative international
1 20 education activities that have garnered Eastern Iowa
1 21 Community College District national recognition; and
1 22 WHEREAS, Eastern Iowa Community College District is
1 23 the first and only educational institution to win the
1 24 state quality award, the Iowa Recognition for
1 25 Performance Excellence; and
1 26 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has developed numerous
1 27 partnerships with educational institutions, business
1 28 and industry, community organizations, and local
1 29 governments that have expanded the capacity of all
1 30 parties to meet eastern Iowans' educational and career
2 1 training needs; and
2 2 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has provided outstanding
2 3 leadership at the state and national level during a
2 4 period of great growth and expansion of the role of
2 5 community colleges; and
2 6 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has been honored as both Central
2 7 Region and National Chief Executive Officer of the
2 8 Year in 2003 by the Association of Community College
2 9 Trustees; NOW THEREFORE,
2 10 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 11 That the House of Representatives recognizes Dr. John
2 12 T. Blong for his dedication to Eastern Iowa Community
2 13 College District, its students, and its communities,
2 14 and honors his efforts to establish Eastern Iowa
2 15 Community College District as a role model for
2 16 community colleges throughout Iowa and the nation; and
2 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage, the
2 18 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
2 19 cause an official copy of this Resolution to be
2 20 prepared for presentation to Dr. John T. Blong,
2 21 Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community College District.
