1 2 BY SANDS
1 3 A Resolution recognizing March 2004 as National
1 4 Nutrition Month.
1 5 WHEREAS, food is the substance by which life is
1 6 sustained; and
1 7 WHEREAS, the type, quality, and amount of food that
1 8 individuals consume each day plays a vital role in
1 9 their overall health and physical fitness; and
1 10 WHEREAS, there is a need for continuing nutrition
1 11 education and a wide-scale effort to enhance good
1 12 eating practices; and
1 13 WHEREAS, the American Dietetic Association's
1 14 nutrition education and information campaign annually
1 15 designates March as National Nutrition Month; and
1 16 WHEREAS, Gretchen Davison, Miss Louisa County 2003,
1 17 and a dietetic intern at Genesis Medical Center in
1 18 Davenport, Iowa, has adopted "E.A.T. Your Heart Out"
1 19 as her platform as a contender in the Miss Iowa
1 20 Scholarship Program; NOW THEREFORE,
1 21 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 22 That the House of Representatives recognizes the month
1 23 of March 2004 as National Nutrition Month as sponsored
1 24 by the American Dietetic Association, and encourages
1 25 all citizens to join the campaign for good nutrition
1 26 and to become concerned about their nutrition and the
1 27 nutrition of others in the hope of achieving optimum
1 28 health for both today and tomorrow; and
1 29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of
1 30 Representatives urges Governor Thomas J. Vilsack to
2 1 proclaim March 2004 as National Nutrition Month to
2 2 further promote the goals of the American Dietetic
2 3 Association to focus attention on the importance of
2 4 making informed food choices and developing sound
2 5 eating and physical activity habits.
