1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. __
1 2 BY HEATON
1 3 A Resolution honoring the Iowa Hawkeyes Football Team
1 4 and Coach Kirk Ferentz.
1 5 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are extremely proud
1 6 that the University of Iowa Hawkeyes Football Team
1 7 completed its regular season as cochampions of the Big
1 8 Ten Conference and participated in the Orange Bowl of
1 9 the Bowl Championship Series; and
1 10 WHEREAS, the Iowa Football Team finished its season
1 11 with a record of 11 wins and two losses and a perfect
1 12 eight wins and zero losses in the Big Ten Conference;
1 13 and
1 14 WHEREAS, the Iowa Football Team placed a school-
1 15 record 11 different players on the two First Team All-
1 16 Big Ten Conference squads, placed five players on the
1 17 Associated Press All-American Team, was the highest
1 18 scoring team in the Big Ten Conference, and finished
1 19 the season ranked eighth nationally; and
1 20 WHEREAS, Coach Kirk Ferentz was named the 2002-2003
1 21 Associated Press Coach of the Year and the Big Ten
1 22 Conference Coach of the Year, and Ron Aiken was named
1 23 NCAA Division I Assistant Football Coach of the Year;
1 24 and
1 25 WHEREAS, senior quarterback Brad Banks was named
1 26 the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, the
1 27 Associated Press National College Football Player of
1 28 the Year, and finished second in the voting for the
1 29 Heisman Trophy, and Dallas Clark was winner of the
1 30 2002 John Mackey Award as the nation's top tight end,
2 1 and Nate Kaeding was winner of the 2002 Lou Groza
2 2 Award as the nation's top placekicker, and Eric
2 3 Steinbach was named the Big Ten Offensive Lineman of
2 4 the Year; and
2 5 WHEREAS, it having been made known to the House of
2 6 Representatives that the University of Iowa's Football
2 7 Team deserves recognition and distinction for its
2 8 accomplishments during the 2002-2003 season; NOW
2 9 THEREFORE,
2 10 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 11 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
2 12 University of Iowa Football Team, Coach Kirk Ferentz,
2 13 and the coaching staff, on their successful season and
2 14 thanks them for the honor and recognition they have
2 15 brought to the University of Iowa and to the State of
2 16 Iowa; and
2 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
2 18 Chief Clerk of the House shall prepare an official
2 19 copy of this Resolution for presentation to Coach Kirk
2 20 Ferentz and the University of Iowa Football Team.
