  1 14 A Resolution in support of the men and women serving
  1 15    in the United States Armed Forces in Operation Iraqi
  1 16    Freedom.
  1 17    WHEREAS, the United States of America was founded
  1 18 on the principles of freedom, liberty, and democracy;
  1 19 and
  1 20    WHEREAS, the safety and security, as well as those
  1 21 very principles upon which this nation was founded,
  1 22 have been threatened and harmed by the dangerous,
  1 23 oppressive, and abusive actions of Iraqi leader Saddam
  1 24 Hussein and his regime; and
  1 25    WHEREAS, in response to these threats, President
  1 26 George W. Bush, as Commander in Chief, has mobilized
  1 27 American military personnel in the Iraqi region; and
  1 28    WHEREAS, the men and women of the United States
  1 29 Armed Forces, including members of the Army, Air
  1 30 Force, Navy, Coast Guard, and Marines, are providing
  2  1 crucial support, skills, and expertise in their
  2  2 efforts to remove Saddam Hussein from power, to free
  2  3 the Iraqi people from his oppressive rule, and to
  2  4 defend and protect all of the innocent victims in Iraq
  2  5 from grave danger; and
  2  6    WHEREAS, the Iowa House of Representatives and the
  2  7 people of Iowa have the greatest pride in the men and
  2  8 women of the United States Armed Forces, including
  2  9 thousands of Iowans serving either on active duty or
  2 10 as a part of a national guard or reserve unit that has
  2 11 been activated in this time of national emergency; NOW
  2 12 THEREFORE,
  2 13    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
  2 14 REPRESENTATIVES, That the Iowa House of
  2 15 Representatives expresses deep gratitude to and
  2 16 respect for the men and women of the Armed Forces, and
  2 17 to their families, for all of their efforts and
  2 18 sacrifices, and prays for their safe return to their
  2 19 home and families; and
  2 20    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of
  2 21 this Resolution, duly authenticated by the Chief Clerk
  2 22 of the Iowa House of Representatives, be transmitted
  2 23 to the Honorable George W. Bush, President of the
  2 24 United States, to each member of the Iowa
  2 25 congressional delegation, and to the Governor of the
  2 26 State of Iowa.
