1 3 (COMPANION TO LSB 2661SS BY HOUSER)
1 4 A Resolution honoring the City of Clarinda on its
1 5 sesquicentennial year.
1 6 WHEREAS, the City of Clarinda, first platted in
1 7 1853, is celebrating its 150th anniversary; and
1 8 WHEREAS, Clarinda is the birthplace of big band
1 9 leader Glenn Miller, actor Billy Aaron Brown, and
1 10 actress Marvel Marilyn Maxwell, and is the boyhood
1 11 hometown of television personality Johnny Carson and
1 12 former U.S. Congressman William Hepburn; and
1 13 WHEREAS, Clarinda is the home to the Clarinda A's
1 14 collegiate baseball organization, the Nodaway Valley
1 15 Historical Museum, and is the birthplace of the 4-H
1 16 International Movement; and
1 17 WHEREAS, the economic development in Clarinda is
1 18 based in such dynamic and long-standing businesses as
1 19 the Lisle Corporation, NSK & NSK/AKS, the Clarinda
1 20 Treatment Complex, the Clarinda Academy, H & H Cargo,
1 21 Weil's Clothing, Taylor Pharmacy, and Easter's True
1 22 Value; and
1 23 WHEREAS, Clarinda is committed to its future and
1 24 its youth through the Clarinda Community School
1 25 District, the Clarinda Lutheran School, Iowa Western
1 26 Community College, the Clarinda Lied Recreation
1 27 Center, and the Clarinda Conservation Service; and
1 28 WHEREAS, Clarinda will celebrate its 150th
1 29 anniversary during a three-day festival, August 29-31,
1 30 2003, featuring an all-class reunion, parade, pancake
2 1 feed, tractor show, and quilt show; NOW THEREFORE,
2 2 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 3 That the House of Representatives recognize and extend
2 4 its congratulations to the City of Clarinda on its
2 5 sesquicentennial anniversary year and for its 150
2 6 years of service to its citizens and to the State of
2 7 Iowa.
2 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
2 9 this Resolution be prepared and presented to the
2 10 Honorable Frank Snyder, Mayor of the City of Clarinda.
