1 2 BY MASCHER, BUKTA, D. TAYLOR, HEDDENS, FREVERT,
1 3 T. TAYLOR, MILLER, WHITEAD, GREIMANN, WENDT,
1 4 GASKILL, WINCKLER, STEVENS, QUIRK, BELL, LYKAM,
1 5 DAVITT, DANDEKAR, D. OLSON, SWAIM, FOEGE,
1 6 MURPHY, HUNTER, WHITAKER, OSTERHAUS, JOCHUM,
1 7 THOMAS, BERRY, LENSING, FORD, and STRUYK
1 8 A Resolution identifying problems of Iowans in
1 9 meeting health care costs and calling upon candidates
1 10 for national office to provide proposals for
1 11 addressing the health care needs of Iowans and the
1 12 people of the United States.
1 13 WHEREAS, quality health care is quickly becoming
1 14 too costly for thousands of Iowans; and
1 15 WHEREAS, 70 percent of Iowans without health
1 16 insurance have a family member who is employed full-
1 17 time; and
1 18 WHEREAS, the health care costs of Iowa families
1 19 have increased by an average of 36 percent over the
1 20 past three years; and
1 21 WHEREAS, these problems exist for citizens
1 22 throughout the United States; NOW THEREFORE,
1 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 24 That the candidates for national political office
1 25 present in this state will be asked to provide their
1 26 proposals for addressing health coverage needs; and
1 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the candidates will
1 28 also be asked to identify how their proposals will
1 29 provide an affordable, basic health care plan for
1 30 everyone living in the United States that is similar
2 1 to the basic plan available to federal employees; and
2 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the candidates will be
2 3 asked to identify how their proposals will ensure that
2 4 everyone living in the United States, including but
2 5 not limited to employers, consumers, and local, state,
2 6 and federal governments, can make a responsible and
2 7 fair contribution to the cost of the health care plan;
2 8 and
2 9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the candidates will be
2 10 asked to identify how their proposals will ensure that
2 11 everyone living in the United States will receive
2 12 health care coverage that is cost and medically
2 13 effective; and
2 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the candidates will be
2 15 asked to address how their proposals will control
2 16 health care costs.
