  1  4 RELATING TO THE NUMBER OF SIGNATURES REQUIRED ON NOMINATION
  1  5    PETITIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS.

  1  7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  8 
  1  9    Section 1.  Section 277.4, unnumbered paragraph 2, Code
  1 10 2003, is amended to read as follows:
  1 11    Each candidate shall be nominated by petition.  If the
  1 12 candidate is running for a seat in the district which is voted
  1 13 for at-large, the petition must be signed by the greater of at
  1 14 least ten eligible electors, or a number of eligible electors
  1 15 equal in number to not less than one percent of the registered
  1 16 voters of the school district, whichever is more which number
  1 17 need not be more than fifty.  If the candidate is running for
  1 18 a seat which is voted for only by the voters of a director
  1 19 district, the petition must be signed by the greater of at
  1 20 least ten eligible electors of the director district or a
  1 21 number of eligible electors equal in number to not less than
  1 22 one percent of the registered voters in the director district,
  1 23 whichever is more which number need not be more than fifty.  A
  1 24 petition filed under this section shall not be required to
  1 25 have more than one hundred signatures.
